Interview with Steven Resell

I've had the privilege of knowing Steven Resell for more than 2 years now. He was an early joiner of my 5 Bucks a Day forum, and contributed hours of free videos about his techniques with article marketing. As time went by, he kept posting, little bit by little bit, some of his results and his ideas.

I recently was on the phone with Steven, and he just started brain dumping about stuff I had never heard of, and I knew I had to get it recorded. So, I asked Steven if he wouldn't mind chatting on the record with Earn1KaDay's resident interviewer, Ian Sneddon.

The results were absolutely amazing. I was secretly hoping that Steven would talk about some of this favorite tactics.When the interview was done, Ian warned me that I was going to like the results, and after editing, he sent me over an 83 minute recording of the conversation.

I asked Steven to give me a brief bio about himself, and this is what came out of that. This is Steven's idea of a "brief bio", so can you imagine what's in the interview where he was asked to "brain dump"?

My name is Steven Resell, and over the past few years I've had my share of success and failures. But more importantly, I'm in the trenches every single day and finally started to uncover what it takes to succeed online. Unfortunately at the same time I’ve watched in disbelief as people "crash and burn" and leave this great business and lifestyle for good.

This is the primary reason why I've decided to share my story…

I’ve had the “privilege” to have been homeless twice in my life… once during (and after) my Junior-year in High School and once during my first year in college… I won’t bore you with the details, nor do I share this to “impress” you, but to impress upon you that I’ve really been FLAT OUT BROKE with nowhere to turn. I know what it feels like to be desperate and hungry… not being able to get a job or turn to family for food (or money).

By the way, did I mention that English is my 3rd language?

I came to the US when I was 18 with a duffle bag of clothes and $700, not knowing a single soul… and through some fortunate circumstances and the help of some awesome people I was able to become an “Entrepreneur” and build a multi-million dollar business offline…

In any event, I got started with internet marketing out of a specific need… Lead Generation. In the late 90’s I was heavily involved with Network Marketing <gasp> and chose to enter the world of IM just to generate leads for my MLM business, which worked phenomenally. And believe it or not, it took me a couple of years before I figured out there were people who were making a substantial income just marketing stuff online.

I guess I’m slow…

When I finally did turn back to IM (after completely burning out on MLM), I settled on creating Adsense sites. You know, those spammy sites you used to land on when doing searches on Google… yep, I contributed to that madness. Fortunately in 2005/ 2006 I lost a BIG chunk of this revenue due to some serious changes with the Google search algorithm. (Don’t put all your eggs in one basket folks!)

This is when I decided to go from a “money-making” philosophy to following a scalable business model online. Since I was ok at creating sites, I decided to build Niche Content Sites and focus on “organic” or “natural” search engine traffic with an emphasis on Article Marketing as the primary vehicle for driving traffic.

Around August of 2006, I discovered the world of Web 2.0 and Social Media and started experimenting with driving traffic to my sites leveraging this as well.

In January of 2007 I released a video series on Article Marketing, which was spurred by a forum post (on a private forum) a few months earlier where they asked the question:

"What would you suggest a beginner with limited resources do if they were just getting started online?"

It got me thinking… so I thought "Hey, what if I just sent article traffic directly to affiliate programs instead of to my niche content sites?"

Well, the idea was really clever… or so I thought.

Without realizing that tons of other people had already been doing this for a while… but I did an entire case study where I went from no income (using this model) to about $2100 per month within 90-days, proving that you can make a living online starting with nothing but the willingness to create unique content.

I ended up taking my videos down a couple of months later and quietly went on to building my sites while sharing some of the things I learned along the way to people who were struggling…

Which brings us to today.

I’m still nursing my content site network driving traffic with different Web 2.0 strategies (and Article Marketing) while also creating some niche info products (ebooks) and flipping websites (when a project goes “sideways”).

Many people have emailed me and asked me to share more stuff… now, I’m happy to share what I know and try to teach it to people, but that was NOT my intention. And you already know that I AM NOT a Big Shot Internet Marketing “guru” or anything like that… (Sorry… I don’t have clickbank statements earning tens of thousands of dollars a day).

I’m just a semi-lazy foreign dude living in Southern California with my family (including my two dogs, Odin and Loki, and my bird Jojo) who started to figure some of this Internet Marketing stuff out (my time is largely spent in the trenches doing what I’m sharing with you here), and earn a nice living (by Southern California standards) publishing and selling content online (by selling content, I mean selling ebooks and flipping websites).

In any event, I’m really surprised and happy that what I’ve shared has had an impact on some people, and feel that if you follow some of the stuff I share you too can start earning a good income online.

I hope that what I have to share with resonate on some level with you as well.
